CD4

Analyte description

CD4 (cluster of differentiation 4), originally known as leu-3 or T4, is a single-chain type I transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on leukocytes, including T cell subsets, B cells, macrophages and granulocytes. CD4 is a co-receptor of the T cell receptor and interacts with distinct regions of the major histocompatibility complex class II expressed by antigen-presenting cells. CD4 participates in thymic differentiation and signal transduction. It also serves as receptor for the human immunodeficiency virus.
