Analyte description

An antibody (also called immunoglobulin) is a glycoprotein expressed by B cells. Each antibody consists of four polypeptide chains, with two identical copies of both the light and heavy chains. Intra- and inter-chain disulfide bonds link the four polypeptide chains together to one antibody. The heavy chain decides the antibody’s isotype and subclass. The light chains of an antibody are identical and can be of two types; kappa (κ) or lambda (λ). The ratio of kappa: lambda in serum immunoglobulins varies significantly among species.
